HÜBNER Group is a German family-owned engineering company founded in 1946, with its headquarters in Kassel, central Germany; the group has expanded to more than 30 locations around the world and employs more than 3,500 people. HÜBNER's business is structured into three divisions: Mobility (systems and components for rail vehicles, buses, airport technology and commercial vehicles), Material Solutions (elastomer, insulating and composite materials with more than 600 rubber-compound recipes used across rail and bus, oil and gas, aerospace and defence, hygiene, medical, commercial-vehicle and building-component applications), and Photonics (laser and terahertz technology, including the C-WAVE, C-FLEX and Cobolt laser product lines and the T-SPECTRALYZER, T-COGNITION, T-SENSE and T-SENSE FMI terahertz instruments). HÜBNER products are stated to be found in 60 to 80 per cent of all trains and buses running worldwide. The Airport Technology business — the relevant line for aviation supply — is centred on the connection between the passenger boarding bridge (PBB) cabin and the aircraft door. HÜBNER produced the first folding canopies for passenger boarding bridges in 1971 and has since delivered more than 5,000 such units, sized to fit the full range of commercial aircraft from regional jets up to the Airbus A380. The patented HÜBNER kinematic system enables gap-free docking, and elastic bumpers seal the canopy against the aircraft fuselage to provide weather protection for boarding passengers. The current flagship is the Passenger Boarding Bridge Interface (PBBI) 2.0, a complete system comprising a fixed frame mounted on the PBB cabin, an adjustable tilt-correction mechanism, the folding canopy and a touchless symmetrically-pivoting sliding floor element. HÜBNER also markets a modular passenger weather-protection and guidance system that connects the terminal to the aircraft across the apron, plus a hinged bumper line and dedicated services and spare parts for installed airport technology.
